LOSS ANALYSIS OVERVIEW

The purpose for a loss analysis is to:

- Identify all losses in the organization and identify the overall loss elimination potential

- Determine what is feasible in three years

- Set preliminary loss elimination goals for the coming year

- Prioritize the losses and identify the ones that will be done in the coming year

- Develop preliminary action plans

- Determine the budgetary impact of the goals and action plans

Losses should be identified as close as possible to the root cause by those that "own" the loss area. These loss owners should participate in setting loss elimination goals. The leaders in the organization should focus on identifying the losses they directly own, identifying loss themes as they apply to the business measures, and providing coaching on how loss elimination goals are being set.
